About Me

My musical journey
I’m Saurav, and my day job is in software development. My musical journey started with Indian classical music, transitioned through rock in high school and college, and after moving to the U.S, European classical and a bit of blues / jazz. I’ve returned to the piano after a break (life, kids), and I’m exploring a new creative path composing relaxing ambient piano music.
Having lived in the Pacific Northwest for over 20 years now, I have come to appreciate the beauty of quiet foggy mornings. My debut release, Mist & Mushrooms, tries to capture the feeling of a walk through the Oregon woods.
Behind the scenes
I play the piano portions on a Kawai Novus NV10. I’ve owned a lot of digital pianos over the years, and as my teacher said, this was the first one where I wasn’t complaining about it within a few months. It has a beautiful grand piano action, and an expressive sound engine that does not get repetitive. With that said, I no longer use the Kawai sounds in my recordings. I bring the MIDI into Reaper, where my go-to VST is Pianoteq, usually a felted preset on the Bösendorfer. Sometimes I will add strings, nature sounds, or other tracks, which are layered in Reaper.
